Hello and Welcome to my Digital Abode
I’m Heather, a Full-Time Sailor and Yoga Instructor. I’m here to encourage you to embrace life boldly, living it to the fullest on your terms.
For me, that means a life of non-stop travel. I started out solo until the post-menopausal age of 54, when I met a Kiwi, on a flight from Nashville to Denver. Three hours later,we were head over heels for each other. Two weeks after that meeting, he showed up in his semi-truck, I hopped in the cab and we have never looked back.
Your path will be different and unique to you. I hope we can inspire each other along the way.
I grew up on Indian Land, yearning to leave. At 15, I boarded my first plane, flying across the world to spend a year in Australia’s Outback as an experimental exchange student. Since then, my passport has collected stamps from across the globe.
In France, I savored wines through Marseille, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Nice, and Montpellier, falling for both southern France and wine.
In Italy, I led English-speaking tours, highlighting cultural gems like Mick Jagger’s home with its authentic Andy Warhol. Spain saw me chatting with local doctors eager to practice English over countless café coffees.
In Holland, I peddled hash to tourists and cheese to locals. Germany found me holding my favorite Stone Temple Pilot’s head as he was sick into a trash bag.
In college, I earned my FCC license, which meant mastering Morse code – I could tap out dots and dashes like a pro. Then came a BA in Communication Studies & Journalism, followed by a Master’s in Rhetoric & Communication from UC Davis. There, I taught Public Speaking to folks who’d rather do anything else than speak in front of others.
The 80s saw me in radio, juggling roles as Promotions Director and weekend DJ. I then jumped into the music world, wearing many hats – from A&R to concert production, and even playing babysitter to stars. Later, I became a music journalist for a big indie label, crafting band stories, press releases, and marketing stuff.
At the age of 50, I bought a 19-foot school bus, named him Bubba, and transformed it into a tiny home. I spent years exploring America’s back roads and highways, discovering both the country and myself.
?
I’ve penned a few books too. One of them, “The Noise Beneath the Apple, A Celebration of Busking in New York City,” snagged a Book of the Year Award for Best Indie title.
My writing’s popped up in various places – “The 9513,” “American Noise,” “The Rolling Stone,” “Relix Magazine,” and lots of online spots. I even wrote a funny column for Match.com, dishing out gems like “if he doesn’t use a napkin, he’ll never use a condom,” and “celibacy is better than bad sex.”
My stories about growing up on Indian land have been featured in “Highlights for Kids” and “Chicken Soup for the Soul” series. These days, I regularly contribute to “Fodor’s Travel,” “ROVA,” “GoNomad,” and other well-known travel publications.
Through all these experiences, I’ve learned that life’s too short not to live it fully. Whether it’s exploring new places, meeting interesting people, or trying new things, every day brings a chance for adventure. And that’s what I’m all about – embracing life’s journey, wherever it may lead.
